Welcome to VanderPlan Consulting!

VanderPlan Consulting is a years-long dream finally coming to fruition! As a full time veterinarian, I worked with many high school & community college ag programs & realized the need for up-to-date, accurate, well packaged resources for teaching animal science & veterinary science, as well as managing school farms & student animals & supporting student success. As I transitioned into being a college educator, I realized how few high quality teaching resources were available, so I made them for my own courses & am now sharing them with you.

On this site, you'll find the following:

  • Farm standard operating procedure (SOP) collections - step-by-step instructions for common farm techniques & procedures, including high quality images & diagrams, packaged together by species & production group

  • Poster-style farm resources - infographics for physical exams, injections by species type, Sharps handling, & more, these look great printed in color, laminated, & mounted in your barn or office

  • Lab packages - lab packages include a lab guide with detailed outline of what you need, how to set up & recommended resources to work through lab activities like fecal analysis, blood smears, small animal restraint, & more, as well as specific step-by-step lab procedures & worksheets

  • Lab procedures - lab procedures provide specific step-by-step instructions, including diagrams & pictures, for animal science & veterinary science labs. These procedures are included in lab packages, but can be purchased as standalone products as well

  • Videos - step-by-step videos for lab procedures & animal husbandry, from fecal analysis to injection techniques

  • Other teaching resources - worksheets, problem sets & other classroom activities for animal science & veterinary science courses

In addition to these online resources, I am also available for in-person consultations & skill workshops on your California school farm, including

  • Farm walkthrough & recommendations - we'll discuss how to improve your farm with existing resources, as well as recommendations for necessary improvements or quality of life improvements

  • Protocol formulation - requires an onsite visit & ongoing professional relationship, formulation of treatment protocols for diseases seen on your farm

  • Standard operating procedure (SOP) formulation - requires an onsite visit, formulation of new or evaluation of existing standard operating procedures specific to your operation

  • Records consultation - troubleshoot recordkeeping systems & ensure you are following industry guidelines

  • Skills workshops - set up training for school farm managers & employees, especially as related to birthing (calving/lambing/kidding/farrowing), euthanasia of livestock species, general animal husbandry procedures (injections, tubing, etc)

Besides providing ag educators with resources I've personally realized a need for, I am also excited to receive feedback from you regarding other educational resources you wish existed. To submit a resource request OR schedule an on-farm workshop, please visit the Contact Us link in the navigation bar.

Thank you for your support & I look forward to building a relationship with you!
