About

Euthanasia is an essential skill for farm managers. Euthanasia translates to good death & most often comes into play when there are questions surrounding animal welfare. At least two people on every farm should be trained in proper euthanasia technique & have access to a humane method of euthanasia in the event a veterinarian cannot make it. In this workshop, we'll be focusing on the captive bolt gun as the most accessible method of euthanasia for small farms, but will touch on other acceptable euthanasia techniques. In this workshop, we'll discuss... 1. Reasons for euthanasia 2. Techniques by age & species - acceptable versus unacceptable methods, landmarks, & confirmation of death 3. Captive bolt gun care & use 4. Carcass disposal We'll be referring to professional veterinary association guidelines & industry standard manuals, all linked within the workshop & available for free online. *All information presented in this workshop is for educational purposes only. Completing this workshop or following suggested instructions does not constitute veterinary advice or take the place of a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship. You should establish a relationship with a veterinarian before an emergency arises!*
